Wassailing Event – Sunday 28th January

Enjoy life, nature and community at this annual free family event in Nuns Moor Park.

It starts at 3.30 in the park’s Bike Garden, where there will be a chance to make your own lantern for a torchlit procession in the evening.

Wassailing is a traditional new year English celebration, where communities recognise their reliance on their neighbours, and on the earth, to provide abundance in the months ahead.

In Nuns Moor Park, the event has a special significance, marking the efforts of volunteers who planted a community orchard, which will bear fruit in the years ahead.

It is always a great occasion for young and old to dress up (usually in green) and get creative. There will be a crowning of a wassail queen or king, only open to those who attend. Musical accompaniment will be provided by the SHE Choir, a group of local women who have made a significant personal investment in the park.

The event has been organised by Time Exchange and the Greening Wingrove Community Interest Company.
