From Ghent to Newcastle – Say Hello to Suganya!

Hello! Let me introduce myself, I am Suganya and I live in Ghent, Belgium. I am a final year Social Work student currently completing my internship, a very important aspect of my studies. I chose to come to the United Kingdom because I didn’t know a lot about this country and wanted to improve my English language skills. For me, it was also important to learn about how the political climate affects and influences the social work and community development practices.

I arrived in Newcastle one month ago. Time has really flown by and it already feels like home. The first thing that I noticed was the kindness and friendliness of the people. It made me feel very welcomed, which is good when you are in a new environment. Having a placement at the Greening Wingrove project has taught me how important a green and clean neighbourhood is for the people who are living in it! I’ve also taken part in a lot of nice activities like crafts at a Skills Café at the Time Exchange every Wednesday and I participated in the Wellbeing Walk.  It’s always nice to be outside when the sun shines and I regularly enjoy joining the weekly litter picks on Mondays.

I really enjoy living here and discovering the different areas and places that Newcastle has to offer. Looking forward to the next few months!
