Community Space For Hire

Did you know that the Arthur’s Hill & Wingrove area has the perfect space for children’s birthday parties, community functions or simply a place to meet?

The Nuns Moor Park Bike Garden is a community garden developed by local organisations and volunteers who have worked steadily over the last four years turning the space from an unused bowling green into a beautifully redesigned garden area which is now home to many activities each week. Young people from the Czech Republic community in the West End, working with the Arthur’s Hill CHAT Trust made the garden instantly recognisable, by designing a huge mural.

Regular gardening sessions, bike clubs, local group meetings, community events and learning opportunities are all held in the Bike Garden each week. Until the end of October most Wednesdays and Sundays (check this events page beforehand), Bike4Health are running a bike repair shop, where people can drop off their bikes for repair in the morning and pick them up mended at the end of the day. They will also be running a number of cycling workshops, structured cycle rides and fun children’s activities right through until the autumn.

The garden is also home to a pavilion, which used to house the park’s old bowling club, but now serves as a community centre, meeting place and activity base. This space is available for hire, along with use of the garden when free. There is even an al fresco pizza oven service for hire for special events.

Demand for the space is often high, so bookings should be made as far in advance as possible, by contacting gw.bikegarden@gmail.com stating which dates and times you are interested in hiring. There are special rates, starting from £10 an hour, for local residents and community groups.

FANCY RUNNING A CAFE?
Currently, the Bike Garden is looking for volunteers, enterprising individuals or small businesses interested in providing a park cafe service from the pavilion on Wednesdays and/or Sundays, to coincide with regular cycling activities taking place. Providers must be able to prepare food off the premises, as the centre does not have cooking facilities. Contact gw.bikegarden@gmail.com if you are interested in this opportunity.
