Apple Day – A Celebration for the Community
Well, we can honestly say that Greening Wingrove Apple Day was a resounding success – with over 400 people attending! The event took place in the Bike Garden in Nuns Moor Park and the wider park on Wed 26th October, during the half-term holiday break.
We had visitors come from all over the West End of Newcastle and afar to enjoy all the wonderful family friendly activities that had been organised, including fresh apple juice pressing, a fun apple shy, leaf crown and bird feeder making with Deni Riach, kite-making, kids drawing frenzy with ReNewcastle and loads more!
The event was lively and happening with great music and entertainment provided by young groups from the CHAT Trust,
We were (happily) overwhelmed with the massive turnout of children from the local schools – all excited and getting stuck in! The queue for the face-painting never let up!
Another special feature was the local food sellers, who were serving up some delicious treats and dishes as well at the Bike Garden’s Pizza oven being fired up to serve scrummy empanadas and apple turnovers.
Apple Day wouldn’t have been possible without the help of all of our fabulous volunteers and supporters! Without them, it wouldn’t have been the success it was.
We hope the community will be able to enjoy more events like this in the future and hope it continues to give its support.
